Get Out and have some Fun this Weekend

From plant swap to Victorian festival fun ...

Where/When: ; 8:30-10:30 a.m. May 21.
Why Go: Come to the Shelby Township Public Library for Perennial Swap VII -- a  great way to share plants you have too many of, or to pick up something new for the garden, in addition to meeting fellow gardeners and green thumbs, there'll be coffee, donuts, advice and plants galore. Even if you're a gardening novice, drop in. Most gardeners have plenty of plants to share.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: ; 9 a.m.-noon May 21.
Why Go: Faith Lutheran Church is holding its plant sale to benefit MCREST (Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team), a traveling homeless shelter. MSU Extension master gardener volunteers will be on hand to answer growing questions, and plants are donated from area gardens.
Pricing: Varies.


Where/When: Downtown Romeo; 9 a.m.-6 p.m. May 21.
Why Go: Enjoy a real blast from the past with the 6th Annual Romeo Victorian Festival, with Civil War re-enactors, walking tours, street performances, vintage bicycles and model trains on display, antique trolley rides, garden party fun and much more.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: River Bends Park, 5700 22 Mile Road; 10 a.m.-10 a.m. (24-hour event) May 21-22.
Why Go: The Relay for Life is a 24-hour community event that not only raises funds for the American Cancer Society, but celebrates life of survivors and honors caregivers and those who have lost their battle. Sign up as a team or a sponsor, or just stop by to support your community. It is a 24-hour event of entertainment, including a survivors lap and luncheon provided for free to survivors and caregivers. After a day of entertainment, food and laps, the event turns solemn at 10 p.m. for the luminaria ceremony honoring loved ones who lost their battle..

Where/When: ; 1-2 p.m. May 21.
Why Go: Former Detroit Tiger outfielder Scott Lusader will be at Shadbush signing autographs, for a donation, which will benefit the American Cancer Society. Bring items to sign, and cameras will be welcome.

Where/When: ; registration begins 6:30 a.m., race begins 8 a.m. May 22.
Why Go: Back to the Beach is a Half Marathon & 5 K Run on the outskirts of Stony Creek MetroPark. The Half Marathon begins and ends at the Eastwood Beach. The 5K Run is adjacent to Eastwood Beach and in southdale picnic area. 
Pricing: Registration is $45 for the half marathon; $25 for the 5K; increases on Race Day $50 half; $30. Proceeds to benefit the Detroit Chapter of Medals 4 Mettle.
