Grab & Go Kids Planner: Fun With Felt, Maple Syrup and Bees

A fun felt craft, maple-syrup goodness, a performance of 'The Secret Life of Bees' and frugal flicks are among this week's family picks.

Why Go: Teens and tweens should love this project: Designing cute, creepy and/or creative characters from felt and other fun frills and doodads. They're easy, fun and all supplies will be provided.
Pricing: Free.


Where/When:, 7 p.m. Friday, March 25.
Why Go: The Macomb Center for the Performing Arts is presenting a staging of Sue Monk Kidd's best-selling book, The Secret Life of Bees. Set during the Civil Rights movement, it follows a young girl as she searches for the truth about her mother. Along the way she finds three beekeeping sisters who teach her the true meaning of family.
Pricing: Tickets are $30 for Gold Circle, $25 for House seating, $15 for children 12 and under. $5 discounts available for military, students and seniors.

Where/When: MJR Partridge Creek Cinemas, March 26-27. Show times will be posted after March 22.
Why Go: Taking the kids to the movies can get pricey, so here's a nice little break. The 2011 Free Children's Spring Film Festival, brought to you by MJR Digital Cinemas, features a family-friendly flick. (This weekend it's Yogi Bear)
Pricing: Free for kids 12 and under until theater capacity is reached and $1 for adults.

Why Go: Sweet! Come to this sweet, informative program and learn about the tapping and boiling-down processes and different types of maple trees. Visitors will also enjoy a dish of ice cream topped with warm maple syrup. Children must be accompanied by a paid adult. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time so you can be sure to reserve the time you prefer: 11 a.m., noon, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.
Pricing: $3 for ages 4 and older.

Where/When: Dave & Busters, 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 27.
Why Go: Macomb Township Parks & Recreation is planning a Dad and Son Day at Dave & Busters. Fathers can enjoy a fun-filled afternoon with their sons, which includes Power Card, organized team-building activities, a keepsake photo and lunch.
Pricing: $16 per person for Macomb Township residents, $21 for nonresidents. Call 586-992-2900.
