Why Go: St. Kieran Catholic Church is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a 4:30 p.m. Mass, followed by a "more than a" Polish picnic, with food, Polka band, cake walk, games, sno-cones, ice cream, popcorn, plus an outdoor family movie at dusk.

Why Go: Peace Lutheran Church and School is holding an outdoor service and church picnic on Sept. 11. Services start at 10:30 a.m., followed by the picnic. Peace Lutheran will provide pulled pork, hot dogs, corn on the cob, chips, water and lemonade. The church is asking people to sign up to bring a dish to pass. Suggestions include pasta dishes, potato dishes, beans, vegetables and desserts. Guests are asked to bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Games and activities are planned for all ages.

Why Go: Celebrate all things apple as Applefest comes to Wolcott Mill Metropark Historic Center. Vistors will be able to sample different varieties of apples, make apple crafts, try apple recipes, make apple cider and hear some history on the fruit. Guests can also help decorate one of five scarecrows. Materials will be provided. Cider and donuts will be available.

Why Go: All About Animals Rescue is organizing an afternoon of fun, prizes and an auction at its Pins for Pets bowling fundraiser, all to help the organization toward its goal of no more homeless pets.

Why Go: Monday truly becomes moon day with the full moon lighting up the evening sky. Sign up for a wagon ride at the Nature Center, where you'll learn about the "Fruit Moon" while on the trails, and cap off the fun with a themed snack. For ages 8 and up.
