Happening This Weekend: ...

Art in the park, flea market fun, a sizzling car show and more.


Where/When: , 6-7:30 p.m. July 21.
Why Go: St. Thomas Presbyterian is holding a "Shake It Up Cafe" Barbecue. Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks will be provided. Please bring a dish to share: salad, chips, dip, fresh fruit or dessert are some ideas.
Pricing: Free.


Where/When: River Bends Park, 5700 22 Mile Road; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 22.
Why Go: If you love bargains, look no further than the 5th Annual River Bends Park Flea Market, where you'll find great deals, unusual finds and more for your browsing pleasure.

Where/When: Riverbends Park, 5700 22 Mile Road; 8 a.m. July 23.
Why Go: The 2011 Gopher the Gold charity run will be held at Riverbends Park; the event benefits the Special Olympics Area 14. There will be a 10K, 5K and a kids fun run planned. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the races at 9 a.m. The fun run kicks off at 10:15 a.m.

Where/When: The Detroit Zoo, 8450 W. 10 Mile Road, Royal Oak; 8:30 a.m. July 23.
Why Go: The Clinton River Watershed is holding its 13th annual fundraiser, Walk on the Wild Side, July 23 at the Detroit Zoo. It's a 2-mile walk through the zoo, designed to be family-friendly and raise awareness for water quality. Sign-in starts at 7 a.m., and the walk at 8:30 a.m.
Pricing: To sign up or make a pledge, click here. Registration fee for the event is $10 per person and includes all-day admission to the zoo. Food and refreshments will be served before and after the walk.


Where/When: Grant Park, at Hahn, east of Van Dyke, four blocks north of Hall; 9 a.m.-6 p.m. July 23, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. July 24.
Why Go: Enjoy arts and crafts galore, as the city holds its 21st annual Old Mill Arts & Crafts Festival.

Why Go: It's time for the 16th Annual Shelby Township Lions Club Car Show, at the Packard Proving Grounds. Enjoy music by DJ Jammin Jerry, concessions, cool cars, a beer tent, 50/50 raffles, vendors, rides on the midway, cool prizes, a performance by Karen Newman, 58 car classes, plus ... wait for it ... a chance to win a trip to Las Vegas.
