Happening This Weekend: Barn Dance, Lavender and Charity Golf

Make the most of your summer weekend.

From a night of nature to square dancing, here's a list of things to do around Shelby Township and Utica this weekend.

Why Go: Take part in some outdoor fun at Burgess-Shadbush Nature Center, as it celebrates Nature Night, which promises fun for the whole family. This evening it's "All About Butterflies,"where everyone will take a walk and use nets to try and catch some of Michigan's butterflies.

Pricing: Cost is $2 for ages 12-adult, and $1 for ages 4-11. Walk-ins welcome.

Where/When: Blake's Orchard & Cider Mill, 17985 Armada Center Road, Armada; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. July 15 and 16.

Why Go: Enjoy the wonders of summer at the 9th annual Michigan Lavender Festival, where you can enjoy lavender-flavored and scented goodies, arts, crafts, plus attend workshops and demonstrations and more.

Pricing: $5 for adults, and children 12 and younger get in free.

Where/When: , starting 9:45 a.m. July 16.

Why Go: It's time for Shelby Township's 16th annual Kids Summer Olympics, held at Whispering Woods Kiwanis Park. Children can compete in a number of events—including 40-yard dash, hurdles, disc toss, long jump and more—in varying age divisions.

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: , 6-9 p.m. July 16.

Why Go: Enjoy a night of square dancing fun at Wolcott Mill Farm Center. It doesn't matter if you're a novice or if you've been square dancing forever, just sign up and have a night of fun.

Where/When: , 7 p.m. July 15.

Why Go: The Knights of Columbus is hosting a fundraiser for Keith Williamson. He is battling several medical conditions and currently on kidney dialysis three to four days each week. All proceeds from this event will go directly to his medical bills. Those who attend will enjoy beer, wine, live music, raffle, prizes and fun.

Why Go: Hamlin Pub is holding its annual Fore Kids charity golf outing at Cherry Creek. Shotgun start is 10 a.m., and guests will enjoy beer and cocktails, lunch and a steak dinner, prizes, games and more—all to benefit Helping Hands of Macomb.
