Happening This Weekend: Cars, Craft Fairs and Night-time Fun

Plenty to do this weekend, whether you're outdoorsy or need strobe lights to amuse you.

Where/When: starting 7:30 p.m. June 23.

Why Go: Head to Coyote Joe's and party on the patio. Ladies enjoy no cover, $1 drinks from 7-10 p.m. and free bull rides. Brush up your footwork skills with line dancing lessons at 7:30 p.m.

Where/When: 9-11 p.m. June 23.

Why Go: Enjoy live music at Sherwood Brewing Company as Richard Clark of Shattered Sky does a special solo show. Or if Friday nights are more your thing, drop by starting at 9:30 p.m. for a mix of blues and rock as performs.

Pricing: No cover.

Where/When: 9 p.m.-1 a.m. June 24.

Why Go: The Joyride Band rocks the Empire tonight, with its mix of Motown clasics and dance music. Plus, enjoy dinner from 5-10 p.m., plus dancing and cocktails until 2 a.m.

Why Go: Rewind and enjoy great deals, as the Friends of the Shelby Townshp Library holds its huge VHS sale until 11 a.m. or until the videos run out. Pay just one buck and you'll get one paper grocery bag to fill with videos. Arrive early and take advantage; you never know what finds (including films that haven't made it to  DVD) you'll discover.

Why Go: The Shelby Farmers Market sets up camp each Saturday morning (and early afternoon) on the front lawn of the Packard Proving Grounds. Drop in and browse for fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables, jams, jellies, honeys and more. Check out the creations of local artisans and craftsmen. Plus, each week Chef Kendall will do cooking demos using fresh, in-season produce.

Pricing: Free to go.

Where/When:; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 25-26.

Why Go: Enjoy a bit of the country life at the Farm Center, with good, old-fashioned farm life. Take a wagon ride, meet farm animals, enjoy live entertainment, see chainsaw art made, wool weaved, the Sheriff Department's K-9 unit perform, play old-fashioned games, dip candles and more. You can also shop for handmade crafts, or take part in a pie-eating contest. Model airplanes and antique farm equipment will be displayed, too. It's truly a full day of fun for young and old, and in between. And if you're so inclined sign for for a "tee-time" on Sunday between noon and 4 p.m. and try your hand at Victorian Croquet. Pricing: $5 fee per person; children 2 years and younger are free. Some activities cost extra.

Why Go: Talk about things that make you go vroom. Head over to the Proving Grounds for the 34th annual Easy Rodders Charity Car Show and Swap Meet. Enjoy a shot at door prizes. See awards and trophies handed out at 2:30. Fuel up on food and drinks, and take in all the cool wheels.

Why Go: Shepherd's Gate has a Freedom Service and Family Event planned, with the theme being "Forever Free." It's a patriotic service and celebration, thanking those who have served and sacrificed to ensure our freedom. Military, friends, families and veterans are all welcome. Worship services will be held at 10 and 11:30 a.m. in the Family Life Center. Games, inflatable play stations, activities and food are planned post-services from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
