Happening This Weekend: Open Air Concerts, Hayrides and More

Plan your weekend with this handy suggestion guide.

Where/When: Anton Art Center, 125 Macomb Place, Mount Clemens; 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 22.

Why Go: Have a little Fat Tuesday fun a bit later in the year (and week) as the Anton Art Center holds its ArtParty Mardi Gras bash this evening. More than 30 area eateries will offer up fine foods under tents outside the center. Plus, there will be desserts, champagne, wine and more to enjoy. A live art auction will be held, plus guests can bid on items such as getaways and more. Live entertainment is also booked, and a silent auction and art and cash raffle are planned, too.

Where/When: Metro Beach Metropark, 31300 Metropolitan Parkway, Harrison Township; noon-8 p.m. Sept. 22 and 23, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Sept. 24, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 25.

Why Go: The Michigan Boating Industries Association's Boating & Outdoor Festival returns to Metro Beach Metropark for four fun-filled days. Check out boats, boating equipment, watercraft, snowmobiles, motorcycles, hot tubs and more; it doesn't matter whether you're simply looking or looking to buy. Duma the waterskiing dog will wow the crowds. Relax and wet your whistle at the Tiki Bar. Contests and promotions will be going on throughout the festival. Plus, kids will be entertained by a visit from Dora the Explorer, have fun in the Kids Zone, bounce houses, face painting, and more.  

Pricing: $9 for adults, and children under 12 get in free with a grownup. To enter the Metroparks a vehicle entry permit is required. Cost is $25 annually for regular admission, $15 annually for seniors, or $5 daily. 

Where/When: Knights of Columbus Picnic Grounds, 11541 21 Mile Road; 7 p.m.-midnight Sept. 24.

Why Go: St. Lawrence Knights of Columbus holds its annual end-of-season hayride. Enjoy a dinner of pasta and salad, dessert, a bonfire, and hayride. Proceeds go toward grounds improvements.

Pricing: $20 in advance or $25 at the gate. 

Where/When: Clinton Township Civic Center, 40700 Romeo Plank; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 24-25. 

Why Go: Indulge your senses with art, music, food, theater and literature at the Festival of the Senses this weekend. Shop for artwork, candles, ceramics, woodwork, mixed-media art, jewelry, photography and more. Authors and artisans will be in attendance. See dancers and magicians perform. Sample great foods. See old-fashioned activities done in period costumes, including candle-making, blacksmithing, paper crafting and plenty more. Children's entertainment is planned, too, including making corn-husk dolls, period games, spatter painting and weaving. 

Pricing: Free.  

Where/When: Fountain Park, the Village of Rochester Hills, 104 N. Adams; 7-9 p.m. Sept. 24.

Why Go: Venture over to the Village of Rochester Hills for an outdoor concert performed by Maestro Stephen Vaglica, who is a classical pianist and a Shelby Township resident. The concert is free, and Hepburn's Crepe and Coffee will serve appetizers and other goodies.  

Where/When: , 9:30 a.m. Sept. 25.

Why Go: Utica Community Schools holds a 4K walk/run and 8K run at Stony Creek this Sunday, to raise money for its wellness programs. Take to the trails, and accompanying children will enjoy the scavenger hunt set up along the path.

Pricing: $20. 

Where/When: , 18215 24 Mile Road, Macomb; 1:30 p.m. Sept. 25.

Why Go: St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church holds its 9th annual Parish Golf Outing at Cracklewood. Enjoy golf, dinner and fun.

Pricing: $75 for golf and dinner, or $35 for dinner only.
