High E. coli Levels Close Stony Creek Beach 1st Time All Summer

High E.coli levels close Baypoint Beach in Stony Creek and Blossom Heath Beach in St. Clair Shores.

Baypoint Beach in is closed Sept. 13 because of high E. coli levels.

However, Eastwood Beach remains open.

The Macomb County Health Department tests the water at six public beaches twice a week for E. coli bacteria. This bacteria lives in the digestive system of humans and warm-blooded animals.

If the levels of E. coli are unsafe (in excess of 300 E. coli colonies per 100 milliliters of water) swimmers could contract minor illnesses, including sore throats or diarrhea. 

The E.coli levels at Baypoint Beach were 443 on Sept. 12. Eastwood's E.coli level were 54.

Also closed Sept. 13 is in St. Clair Shores.

While the beaches are closed, the remainder of the park facilities remain open.
