Resolve to Freeze Your Franny
Did your New Year's resolutions include more exercise and more good deeds? Here's a good way to do both.
Sometimes it's good to freeze your fanny. Especially when it's an event such as the "Freeze Your Franny" walk and 5K race that's going down Jan. 28 at Stony Creek Metropark.
Last year, more than 450 braved the cold and four inches of snow — don't worry, paths will be cleared and salted, whatever the weather — to Freeze their Frannies for the first time. According to Nancy Smith, Freezy Your Franny event director, "we foresee that number increasing this year."
The event is organized by the Utica Education Association's Staywell Committee, and proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. After all, it's important to stay active for our immediate and long-term health, and that's a huge goal of this walk, to encourge movement and wellness.

New this year is a "Freeze Your Franny Look-Alike" contest, where the top three will win $20 gift certificates for Hanson's.
The race begins at 11 a.m., at the Boat Launch, with the walkers beginning 5 minutes later. The course is dog and stroller friendly, and afterwards guests will be able to warm up and socialize with soup, coffee and hot chocolate.

Cost to participate is $10 before Jan. 25, or $15 after that date. Those who race will also have to pay for a $5 daily vehicle entry if they don't already have an annual Metroparks pass.
