Shelby Board Approves Contract for Section 30 Drain Project

The Shelby Township HR director will handle FOIA requests from now on, board decides Tuesday

The following items were brought before the Shelby Township Board on Tuesday:

  • Erika Zoller, of the township Beautification Committee, awarded this year’s Beautification Awards honoring well-kept yards and gardens. This year’s recipients were Cathy and Bill Ireland, Randy and Audra Spondike and James and Agnes Vickery, all of who have won the award three times; as well as Noemi Martoni and Vincent and Rina Abate.
  • The board voted to make township Human Resources Director Lisa Suida the point person on all Freedom of Information Act requests, effective immediately. The requests were previously handled through the clerk’s office.
  • The board awarded the Section 30 Drainage Project to Superior Excavating Inc., who bid the project at $447,225. The project encompasses installing a drainage outlet from two lakes in Shelby Township, maintaining lake levels. The project is being funded by federal Community Development Block Grant dollars.
  • The board authorized Fazal Khan & Associates to develop a set of engineering design standards at a cost not to exceed $12,000. The document “would provide clear direction as to what our design and construction standards are in one comprehensive document,” wrote Director of Public Works Ted Schoenherr in a letter to the board.
  • Trustees allocated $27,000 to replace doors and conduct a paint project at Shelby Manor Senior Housing. The project was put out to bid twice.
  • Additionally, the board of trustees authorized state-mandated IT upgrades to be made to the 41A District Court at a cost of about $4,400.
