Weekend Events Planner: Pick Your Pleasure From Sock Hops to Flying Pandas

Polish off your bird-watching skills, think pink or head to the sock hop this weekend.

Where/When: Henry Ford II Performing Arts Center, 11911 Clinton River Rd, Sterling Heights; 7 p.m. April 28-30, and 2 p.m. April 30.
Why Go: Find out what the heck "Space Pandas" are. (Actually it's pretty obvious.) But in any case it's David Mamet's play "The Revenge of the Space Pandas," a witty family-friendly drama that a gang of friends who create a clock that plays with time on Earth and sends them to another dimension where they battle a villain and, you guessed it, space pandas.
Pricing: Tickets are $10 adults, $8 students/seniors, and $5 children 10 and under. To reserve tickets, call 586-797-1818.

Where/When: ; Friday, April 29, 7 p.m.
Why Go: The Nature Center is holding a Bird Identification event, where people can learn about different kinds of birds, look at bird identification books and practice using binoculars. There will also be a discussion of area "birding hot spots" including Holland Ponds.
Pricing: $2 for ages 12-adult; $1 for ages 4-11; call 586-323-2478 for details.

Where/When: Fern Hill Country Club, 17600 Clinton River Rd, Clinton Township; Friday, April 29, 7-11:30 p.m.
Why Go: If you need a little rough and tumble in your weekend diet, enjoy an evening of Extreme Cage Fighting featuring amateur mixed martial arts.
Pricing: $25 general admission, $35 for VIP ringside seating. Food will be for sale, and a cash bar will be available.

 Where/When: ; Friday, April 29, 9 p.m.-2 a.m.
Why Go: Empire Lounge is hosting Simply Pink for the Cure, benefiting the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure. Joyride Band will perform, and DJ Chrome will play the tunes. Raffle drawings are also part of the evening.
Pricing: $20, includes one drink and appetizers.

Where/When: Lorenzo Cultural Center; Saturday, April 30, 7:30 p.m.
Why Go: Enjoy a night of nifty fifties fun, with the Lorenzo Center's Sock Hop. Enjoy dance contests, a game of "Name That Tune," costumed fun and hula hoop hijinks. Cash bar and refreshments will be available, too.
