Weekend Planner: Free Concert at Stony Creek; PiratePalooza Drops Anchor

Get out and do something fun this weekend.

Where/When: Shelby Senior Center, 51670 Van Dyke Ave., 5:3o p.m. June 17.
Why Go: The Shelby Senior Center is holding a Jumpin' June Jive dinner-dance beginning 5:30 p.m. June 17. Tri-City Plus will provide the music, and dinner will be served.
Pricing: $16.

Where/When: ; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 16-18.
Why Go: A group of teens and parents from Shelby Bible Church is heading to New Orleans in July to spend a week ministering to people in the area. To raise funds the teens are hosting a big garage sale on church grounds. Items sold will go toward the mission trip.
Pricing: No entry fee.

Where/When: ; 9 p.m. June 16.
Why Go: Open mic host Rob LeMay invites all singers and musicians to show off their talents at Sherwood Brewing Company.
Pricing: No cover.

Where/When:
Gibraltar Trade Center North, 237 N. River Road, Mount Clemens; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. June 17.
Why Go: Get ready for the Senior Fun Festival at  Gibraltar Trade Center North. The event, sponsored by Macomb County  Senior Citizen Services, includes a full day of information and  entertainment, all for free. There will be live music by Moose and Da Sharks, dancing, bingo, health screenings and fitness demonstrations. Vendors will be showing and sharing their wares, and officials from  local government and beyond will be on hand to hear concerns and talk to  show-goers.
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: Luna Kai Tiki Bar (at Gino's Surf), 37400 Jefferson, Harrison Township; 5 p.m.-2 a.m. June 17 and 4 p.m.-2 a.m. June 18.
Why Go: Shiver me timbers! It's time for PiratePalooza, which drops anchor at Luna Kai Tiki Bar for two days of live music, barbecue (including a Saturday pig roast), drink specials, vendors and swashbuckling fun. Enjoy classic rock on the dock, by Danny D and The Bo Luc Band, sea shanties by the Ann Arbor duo Match by Match on Friday. On Saturday The Orbitsuns and The Bawdy Boys will perform, and acoustic troubador Frankie D'Angelo sings songs of the high seas. Plus, both nights Detroit's own Nikki Black, a dead ringer for Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow character in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, will host the Wicked Wench and Captain Jack Sparrow look-alike contests.
Pricing: $5 for those in pirate gear, and $10 for those who opt for plain clothes. All ages are welcome.

Where/When: ; 6:45 p.m. June 17.
Why Go: Shadbush Nature Center has regular Nature Nights events that are fun learning experiences for kids and the whole family. This time it's Catching Insects with Nets. Everyone will use nets to catch butterflies, bugs, beetles and more from the fields surrounding the gardens, and then examine these creatures with magnifiers and then release them. Nets and magnifiers will be provided. Mosquito repellent is suggested.
Pricing: $2 for ages 12-adult, or $1 for ages 4-11. Walk-ins welcome.


Where/When: ; 7:30 p.m. June 17.
Why Go: Stony Creek is rockin' tonight, as the Teen Angels are booked to perform a variety of tunes on Eastwood Beach. Bring a chair or blanket to relax upon. Picnic baskets are allowed, but please, no glass containers. Food will  also be available at the park’s concession area, too.
Pricing: Concerts are free, except for the required vehicle entry permit: $5 for a daily pass.  

Where/When: ; 9 p.m.-1 a.m. June 17.
Why Go: Stop at Empire Lounge to hear the Joyride Band rock the house. Enjoy dinner and cocktails, too.
Pricing: No cover.
