Weekend Planner: Golf Outings to Fishing Fun

Golf outings, fishing fun for the family, and cars are the stars of this weekend.

Where/When: Century Banquet Center, 33204 Maple Lane Drive, Sterling Heights; 6:30-9:30 p.m. June 9.
Why Go: The Growing Hope Gala is a fun event for the whole family benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Adults will enjoy appetizers, desserts, cocktails and a silent auction, while kids 4-16 will have their own separate fun to parktake in, with crafts, games and other fun, plus their own menu.
Pricing: Adults, $50; children, $10.

Where/When: Sycamore Hills Golf Club, 48787 North Ave., Macomb;  11 a.m. June 11.
Why Go: The Kiwanis Club of Utica/Shelby Township is organzing the June 10 Fred Wilt Memorial Golf Outing at Sycamore Hills Golf Club. Enjoy 18 holes, lunch, four-man scramble, putting contest, dinner and awards.

Why Go: Shelby Township Parks & Recreation wants kids to get hooked on a fun hobby at the 25th Annual Youth Fishing Derby, to be held June 11 at Heritage Garden Lake, behind the Municipal Building. Prizes will be awarded in various categories.
Pricing: Free to Shelby Township and Utica children ages 15 and under. Bring your own equipment and bait.


Where/When:; noon-4 p.m. June 11.
Why Go: Wolcott Mill Historic Center hosts a "Take Me Fishing" event, where kids can learn the rudiments of fishing, including knot tying, making a lure, identifying the parts of a fishing rod, casting a line, boating safely, identifying fish and learn about water quality.

Where/When: Metro Beach Metropark, 31300 Metropolitan Pkwy., Harrison Township; 11 a.m. June 11.
Why Go: Head a bit east for Family Fishing Fun Day at Metro Beach, where you'll enjoy throwing a line out and hooking a new hobby. Equipment will be provided. For ages 7 and up.

Where/When: Dodge Park, 40400 Utica Road, Sterling Heights; 10 a.m.-10 a.m. June 11-12.
Why Go: The American Cancer Society Relay for Life comes to Dodge Park, a 24-hour event reminding us that cancer never sleeps so why should we? There will be live music, games and activities for children, a silent auction, great food and more. Various events are planned, including the Survivor's Lap at noon, the Fight Back ceremony at 5 p.m., or the Luminaria at dusk.
Pricing: This is is a fun, free family-oriented event.

Where/When: ; 8 a.m.-3 p.m. June 12.
Why Go: Come show off your classic car in the Cars R Stars show, or just check out all the cool cars and the swap meet. This year's theme is "The Classic Beauty of Wood in Auto Styling." Check out the arts and crafts area, browse the cars for sale, see awards and trophies handed out, and enjoy music provided by DJ Jammin' Jerry and purchase concessions, tour the historic lodge and more.
Pricing: $5.
