9th Annual Gopher The Gold Run for Special Olympics

This
year marks our 9th anniversary of the Gopher The Gold Run for Special Olympics.
The money we raise helps send our special kids to the annual state meet held each year
at Central Michigan. After several down years, last year we were able to raise
over $10,000 to help the kids of Macomb and Oakland County.  Joe Youngblood from Shelby Parks and Rec was very pleased with the support we have given him for his kids.  Last year we had over 600 walkers/runners.   There will be a DJ blasting out the tunes, and a free Biggby Coffee stand as well.  Thanks to the many sponsors this year, including Shelby Twp Lions Club, UAW Local 400, Anytime Fitness-Shelby, Joe Bauer, Creative Group, Burke Mechanical, Creative Technology and Training Solutions, Town Square Pizza, Hansons Running Stores, and American Speedy.  Thanks to the Shelby Twp Fire Department an Shelby Parks and Rec for their support of this great event.

Registration fees are $20 prior to race day and $25 on race day.  There is also a kids run for $5.  All participants receive a nice t shirt as well.  You register on Friday-July 19 at the Hansons Running Store in Utica, as well as do early pick up your race packet.  Store hours are 11-8.  You will also receive a 20% discount on all your purchases on that Friday.

We are also hoping to have Desi Davila, from the Brooks-Hanson Running Program as our starter.  She ran in the olympics in London in the marathon this past year.  Phil Randazzo will also be there for the national anthem.
