Bulldogs and Eagles hit the ice to “Crush Cancer”

Bulldogs and Eagles hit the ice to “Crush Cancer” on December 13, 2013 6 pm

The Romeo and Eisenhower varsity ice hockey teams will be hitting the ice to “Crush Cancer” on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 6 pm at Suburban Ice Macomb(25 mile and Broughton Roads, Macomb Twp).  The two teams will be joining forces for the charity hockey game to raise money for kids from their communities fighting cancer.

The Eisenhower Eagles will be playing for Justin Townsend, a 7th grader from Shelby Junior High School who is battling Brain Cancer.

This will be Romeo’s fourth annual charity hockey game. The charity game unofficially began in 2010 when yellow ribbons were distributed and the gate fees collected for Stan Babinski (Super Stan). Babinski, a Bulldog hockey alumnus, battled Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Touched by the loss of Babinski, several players requested that the Bulldog hockey team have its own charity game to fight childhood cancer.

This year the tradition continues with hockey players from both teams skating in honor of kids from Children’s Hospital battling cancer. The players will be wearing jerseys with the names of a child fighting cancer on the back. After the game, the players will present their jersey to the child they were playing for or a representative in an “on-ice” ceremony.

This has been a sellout in the past and is sure sell out early for this year’s contest.  Both teams will be pre-selling tickets for $5 for the Friday, December 13, 2013 game.  The teams are also selling  “Crush Cancer” T-shirts for $10.  A silent auction and raffles will also take place at the game.
