Relay for Life of Shelby Township Already Getting off to 'Rockin' Start

On Feb. 4th, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Shelby Township will officially get underway as event volunteers, participants, and those interested in more information gather at The Palazzo Grande for a kickoff rally to launch their fundraising efforts for the year.

Although the Relay For Life of Shelby Township is more than four months away, now is the time to get involved! Residents are invited to attend the kickoff celebration to learn more about the upcoming event and how they can become part of an exciting and fun 24-hour event that will pave the way to a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

The Relay For Life of Shelby Township Kickoff event will take place on February 4th at the Palazzo Grande on Van Dyke Ave. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the program will start at 7 p.m. Come on out to learn what Relay For Life is all about, register your team, find out what our “rockin” theme is this year, enjoy some light snacks and drinks and let’s get this fight started!

Relay For Life participants and visitors have a chance to celebrate the victory of local cancer survivors during the Survivors Lap; remember those who are fighting cancer or those who have lost their battle to the disease during the Luminaria Ceremony; and participate in the Fight Back Ceremony, which gives everyone a chance to proclaim his or her own way of taking action against the disease. Donations can be made to this local Relay For Life event by visiting RelayForLife.org.  Community members also can start or join a team by following the links to their local Relay event.

The 2014 Relay For Life of Shelby Township will take place on May 17-18 at River Bends Park beginning at 10:00am and running for 24 hours.  For more information about the kickoff event or on how you can get involved, contact Christa Branchick at 248.663.3477, christa.branchick@cancer.org.
