How to Celebrate Halloween in Shelby-Utica

The area is filled with Halloween-themed events during the next few weeks.

Sinister Haunted House

When: Oct. 18-19, Oct. 25-26, dusk to 12 midnight
Where: 6991 Auburn Rd., Utica

Halloween Hustle

Courses include a 5K on the park road and paved bike path, as well as a 10K mostly on paved bike path, short distance on packed dirt.

When: Saturday, Oct. 26, 10 a.m.
Where: Stony Creek Metropark - Eastwood Beach (4300 Main Park Rd., Shelby Township)

Halloween ComicFest

Free mini- and full-sized comics being given out, including such titles as Batman, Thor, Spider-Man, Archie, Adventure Time and other great titles for comic readers of all ages.

When: Oct. 26-27
Where: Bring Your Old Books (8074 21 Mile Rd., Shelby Township)

Spidermania

You will see some live spiders, including (at time of this writing) the world’s second-largest species. Learn important facts about Michigan spiders, some basic spider biology, and care instructions for keeping live spiders as pets.  We will also examine and debunk some spider myths. Children and adults will enjoy a spider craft, microscopes, a visit from a costumed spider character, and more. You may pre-register but walk-ins are welcome. 

When: Saturday, Oct. 26, 1 and 2:30 p.m.
Where: Burgess Shadbush Nature Center (4101 River Bends Dr., Shelby Township)

Wag 'N' Tails 3rd Annual Halloween Party and Costume Contest

Halloween has gone to the dogs! Dogs and their owners are invited to come dressed in their best costumes for the event. There will be entertainment, costume contests, specials, and refreshments.

When: Saturday, Oct. 26, 12 noon to 2 p.m.
Where: Wag 'N' Tails Dog Activity Center (6776 Mound Rd., Shelby Township)
