Put an End to the Mommy Wars

Bloggers, and facebook friends seem to spread controversy and add fuel to the fire.  It sells.  But, why do so many moms get drawn into the Mommy Wars? 

As a postpartum doula, I work with families after the birth of their baby's.  I've noticed that each family has a unique take on parenting, but they all have one thing in common, they are doing the best they can do for their children.  

I'm not here to advocate one way or the other about how to parent your children.  I have four children of my own and have done things slightly different with each one. 

What I would like to advocate is "when you know better, do better."  This famous Maya Angelou quote has helped me immensely in parenting and in my doula work.  What I know is that judging other moms doesn't help anyone.  

Let's start a revolution of love! Try smiling at a mom who is doing it differently than you might do with your children, but she is still getting the job of mothering done.  Try to hold back that snide comment if you start to judge someone else. 

Let's learn from each other and share in our strengths.  Motherhood is a difficult job, let's stop all the fighting and start supporting each other.  I believe there are many ways to do the job of parenting "right." 

Let's agree to disagree about certain aspects of parenting and instead focus on what we have in common.  We love our kids!
