The little things

Just a couple little things that make my day. What are your little things?

It's all about the little things. We depend on the little things to get us through the day.Through a long day at work. Through a lazy day at home. Through an always annoying day at school. So here are some little things that help a normal teenager like me get through the day. When my parents come home from work with a slurpee in their hand. I have no license and I have no car, but I have a strong love for slurpees. On hot summer days there is nothing I want to do more than travel to 7/11. When my dad walks  through the day and I see that sweating yellow cup, he's just won over my heart. When customers at work have a conversation with me like I'm a normal human being. Just because I'm cashing out your check and serving you food doesn't mean I'm not just like you. I'm just at work. When they tell me they like my bracelet or ask how I'm doing, I eagerly jump into the conversation as if no one has talked to me for days. When I'm home alone with a fridge full of food. It's time to pig out and it's time to experiment. I google new recipes and put on my best Food Network Star performance and make a meal other than microwavable mac and cheese. It proves to myself I'm one step closer to being ready to grow up, or at least being able to follow a recipe. I'm a professional chef for the day pleasing my own taste buds. When strangers compliment my work. I know I'm a good writer. My mom tells me, my classmates tell me, my teachers tell me. But when someone I'm not friends with compliments my writing or even simply reads my blog, my day has been made. It means I'm making an impact that reaches farther out than the little world I live in. And lastly, when I'm doing something I love. It takes me a lot of mental strength to to do many things throughout the day that I don't want to do. I feel like it takes years to get through simples tasks that am just plain boring. But when I'm writing, or when you're playing hockey, or when you're cooking, or when you're hanging out with friends, time flies. I'm having fun; you're having fun. When I'm doing something I love, I get this look on my face that screams "look at me, look what I'm doing." Even if it's just for an hour out of the day, when doing something I love to do I'm in the zone and there's no getting me out of it.It's what gives you a smile when you have every right to frown. It's what make you happy in the moment. It's what takes your mind away from whatever you're doing. It's all about the little things.
