Walk for Kids with CdLS at Stony Creek Sunday

St. Clair Shores couple uses their experience with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome to help raise awareness and funds for kids with the disease.

The Walk for Will & Hope, an annual event started by a St. Clair Shores couple to raise money for kids with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS), will be held Sunday at

Maureen Feighan-Kurth and Joel Kurth, profiled in this story by C and G Newspapers, started the walk three years ago in memory of their son, Will Kurth, who was born with the CdLS and passed away in 2004. CdLS is a genetic syndrome present from birth. It ranges in severity, but all individuals with CdLS share similar characteristics, such as small stature, hands, feet, and head; joined eyebrows; long eyelashes; upturned nose; and thin, downturned lips. Physical and cognitive development is delayed.

The 2011 Walk for Will & Hope, which will benefit the CdLS Foundation, will be held at 9 a.m. on Oct. 23 starting at the Mt. Vernon Picnic Shelter at Stony Creek Metropark in Shelby Township. There is no registration fee; donations are welcome. For more information, call Maureen at 586-863-8498 or email mfeighan@msn.com.
