School’s Out for Summer, School’s Out Forever - or just until the end of this month.

Summer vacation is like a coupon; valid only from June to August. But what can you and your family do with it while you still have a chance to 'redeem' it?

For most (if not, all) Michigan students that will be starting the 2011-2012 school year on September 6, many of them (as well as their families) are trying to squeeze in as much vacation activities as possible in their last weeks of summer recess. Whether it be hanging out with friends in the neighborhood or traveling around the state or nation, kids are going to be kids while they can before they are put back in a constant routine...until next June.

As noted by one of my blogging colleagues, Jon Ulicny, some kids and teens seem like they do not want to go back. This is common among teenagers around the age of 13 and older as they do not want the constant pressure of having to do homework each night, deal with the stress of other peers around them, (each day) and even have to wake up at such an early time in the morning (each day)! They cannot be blamed for their thoughts on this one. Transitioning back, yet again, to another long school year is hard after having almost two and a half months of doing what they chose - without a steady agenda.

However, students sometimes consider only one aspect of going back to school: the rigorous curriculum. Many other opportunities for students, such as school clubs and groups, sports, you name it - start back up again in full swing by the end of the first month of school.

Whether your child or teen is (or isn’t!) looking forward to the new school year, many new things come out of it such as friendships, relationships, great and fun times that create memories that can last forever.
