Instead of buying conventional Father’s Day gifts like watches or ties, try something hand-made this year. These simple do it yourself gifts will not only be unique but also carry a memorable sentiment for you and your father to share.
Change up your dad’s morning cup of Joe by creating your own personalized coffee mug for him to enjoy. Several websites offer a variety of wrap-around and collage designs where you can easily upload your own family photos so each sip reminds dad of a favorite memory.
A magnetic board can be used in the house or office and is a great way for your dad to organize family photos and work memos.
Supplies (all can be found at):
- Picture Frame (size and design of your choice)
- A sheet of zinc-coated steel that is cut to fit your frame (aluminum and stainless steel do not hold magnets)
- Acrylic spray paint or fabric to decorate the magnetic board
Once you have covered your zinc sheet with paint or fabric, you can simply place it into your frame and enjoy! To add more of a personalized touch, you can use a hot glue gun to attach small magnets to some of your dad’s favorite things like baseball cards, a sport’s game ticket stub or an autographed photo.
No-Sew Lounging Blanket:
If you want a gift that is super easy to make, this lounging blanket will definitely do the trick. And while it may be simple to make, it’s useful for your dad to use on long car rides, picnics or just for lounging around the house.
Supplies (found at your local fabric store like Joanne Fabrics):
- 2 sheets of fleece fabric cut anywhere from 1.5-3yards
Be creative with your fabric choice! You can choose his favorite color combination or utilize the patterned designs they have at the store (they have a variety of popular sports teams and colleges). Once you’ve got your fabric, simply lay the sheets out flat and cut 2-3 inch inwards slits all around the four sides.
Then just tie the blankets together by double knotting to ensure the blanket won’t become undone. You can cut off any remaining fabric from the tied knots for a cleaner look. You can also attach a custom message like “#1 Dad” by cutting out letters from felt and hot gluing them to the corner or edge.
