As an alumna and former Bob Lantzy student, the news of his retirement from football Wednesday, marks the end of an era and comes with mixed emotions.
I immediately feel happiness for Lantzy’s wife Joan, and for the many more hours she’ll gain with her 65-year-old husband who retired from teaching at Ike a few years ago, and sadness for all the former students who have such fond memories of the winning coach and the future students who will never Lantzy's infectious enthusiasm.

On Wednesday evening, at a postseason banquet at, Lantzy handed out awards and thanked the coaching staff for a great year. He announced his retirement at the end of the speech, according to The Macomb Daily.
