Patch Picks: Local Summer Camps for the Kids

The Macomb franchise of TGA Premier Junior Golf is hosting nine weeklong sessions at Sycamore Hills Golf Club starting the week of June 20 and running through Aug. 22. Camp runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and includes morning instruction at three stations (driving range, putting, chipping), plus rules and etiquette, games, lunch and nine holes of golf in the afternoon. A certified instructor will accompany each foursome. The cost of is $349 and includes lunch, green fees, range balls, a collared golf shirt and three TGA logo golf balls. Open to elementary, middle and high school students, this workshop runs July 11-15. During the workshop, students will learn drama skills from theater professionals such as Lou Fazzini, director and founder of All The World's A Stage. The workshop concludes with a performance on July 15. For a complete schedule, visit the MCC website. Registration remains open until the start of the workshop, but is based on availability. Students in first and second grade are $120, while all others are $195. A $20 discount is available if paid in full by June 3.

Open to grades seven through 12, this workshop runs July 31 through Aug. 6. During this weeklong workshop, students learn vocal technique, song interpretation and dance from professional choreographers and vocal coaches. The week of workshops culminates in a grand finale performance, for which students can audition for solos. The cost of the workshop is $235 per student, but there is a $20 discount if paid in full by June 3. Registration remains open until the start of the workshop, but is based on availability.

 The church’s five-day SpringHill Day Camp is held at the church on 23 Mile Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 25 to July 29. It’s open to kindergarten through fourth-grade students. The day camp includes climbing activities such as wall climbing, crafts, low ropes, slingshot, water activities, euro-bungee, flying squirrel, silly games and much more. The cost is $149 per child and $124 per week for each additional sibling. Financial aid is available to every family that is in need. For more information on financial aid, call 231-734-2616.

Ben Gordon, one of the sharpest shooters in the NBA, brings his powerful basketball camp to Shelby Township on Aug. 30. The four-day action-packed camp at the Joe Dumars' Fieldhouse will focus on the FUNdamentals of basketball. Gordon, the first rookie ever to win the Sixth Man of the Year Award, plans on personally attending almost all of the camps. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 30 through Sept. 2. The camp is open for boys ages 8-17 and costs $205 for all non Joe Dumars' Fieldhouse members and $195 for Fieldhouse members.
