Blaze Damages Roma Valley Apartments in Shelby Township

Shelby Township fire officials report there were no injuries Monday at the blaze at the Roma Valley apartments.

A two-alarm blaze damaged several apartments Monday at the Roma Valley apartments on Shelby Road, near 22 Mile, in Shelby Township.

The blaze appeared to have started about noon in the attic area in one of the buildings in the complex.

When Shelby Township firefighters arrived, smoke was seen coming out from the eaves of the building and a second alarm was sounded. Firefighters from Utica and Sterling Heights assisted in the battling the blaze.

According to Shelby Township Fire Marshall Edward Vojtush, the fire was contained to just half of the building due to a wall which blocked the spread of the blaze. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, but residents of the six occupied apartments in the building currently can not return home due to fire, smoke and water damage.

Vojtush said there were no resident injuries, but the extreme heart affected some of the Shelby Township firefighters despite their best efforts to cycle through personnel. They did not have to be hospitalized.

He added that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
