Blaze Damages Historic Utica Garage

An early-morning blaze Thursday damaged a detached garage of a home on the edge downtown Utica.

The fire was called in about 5:45 a.m. for the blaze in the renovated barn behind a home on Cass, just north of Summers.

Utica Fire Chief Kevin Wilseck reported there were no injuries, but the barn suffered a large amount of damage. He added that the building was originally a barn, but had been converted into a garage and workshop where the homeowner built model airplanes.

It took firefighters about an hour to get the blaze under control, and Cass was shut down while crews worked to extinguish the blaze.
