M-53 Driver Loses Control of Brakes, but Shelby Officers Make a Safe Stop

A 49-year-old Chesterfield man was uninjured as his car, driving northbound on M-53 from Sterling Heights, was stopped before it reached 27 Mile Road.

A potentially-serious incident was stopped in its tracks when Shelby Township Police Department officers stopped a car which had lost control of its brakes on Thursday morning, according to reports.

A 49-year-old Chesterfield man was uninjured as his car, driving northbound on M-53 from Sterling Heights, was stopped before it reached 27 Mile Road. Officers learned of the incident at about 11:20 a.m., after the man was unable to use other methods to bring his 1997 Mercury Mariner to a stop.

Officer Jim Osterland positioned his patrol car in front of the distressed driver and safely brought the vehicle to a controlled stop. Neither the patrol car nor the Mercury Mariner sustained significant damage in the incident.
