PHOTOS: Shelby Firefighters Shop with Underprivileged Children for Christmas

The Shelby Township Firefighters shopped with Macomb County Children Thursday at Meijer and helped them cross off their Christmas shopping list.

Shelby Township firefighters turn personal shoppers Thursday to help children of underprivileged families do their Christmas shopping at Meijer.

During the annual Shop with a Hero event, seven Shelby Township firefighters paired up with about 20 local children to cruise the aisles of the Meijer on Hall and Hayes roads.

The shopping spree gave the children an opportunity to finish their Christmas shopping and buy gifts for their families and friends.

Seven-year-old Jamison, of Shelby Township, said he was most excited about buying a Nerf gun for his friend so they can continue to have "mini wars" in his basement.

Before the shopping fun began, Meijer supplied the families, firefighters and volunteers a pizza dinner, snacks and dessert. Also, music by the Dakota Band serenaded the crowd as they dined.
