Photos: Shelby Twp. Firefighters Step It Up to Raise Money

Take a look at pictures of Shelby Township firefighters during the Fight For Air Climb event in Detroit.

The Shelby Township Firefighters Fight for Air Climb team was awarded last Thursday during a banquet in Detroit.

The team, comprised of four Shelby Township firefighters, raised nearly $800 for the American Lung Association for participating in the Fight For Air Climb last March.

Each member of the team, dressed in full bunker/turnout gear and an air pack, climbed 70 flights of stairs to the top of the GM Renaissance Center.

The team came in third place overall behind Dearborn Heights, Hazel Park and the Birmingham fire departments.

  • Jessica Manka took fifth place in the women's under-40 full-gear challenge
  • Joe Rauchfleish placed 40th in the under-40 men's full-turnout-gear challenge.
  • Keith Clancy took third overall in the full-turnout challenge.
  •  Steve Henion took first in the over-40 full-turnout challenge, and fifh overall, all ages.

The awards banquet was held at Fountain Bistro in Campus Martius Park.
