Police Believe Alcohol Involved in Fatal Crash on Adams Road

Police have identified the victim of a fatal crash Friday afternoon on Adams Road in Rochester Hills; they also said they believed alcohol was involved in the crash.

Kim Cheryl Miller, 57, of Lapeer, died after the 1995 Ford Mustang she was driving crossed the center line of Adams Road and crashed head-on into a Chevrolet Trailblazer at 1:55 p.m. Friday, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the Trailblazer was a 33-year-old Shelby Township resident.

In a report released Saturday night, invesitgators piece together the events leading up to the crash.

• The Mustang was traveling north on Adams Road, between Hamlin and Avon roads. A witness reported that the vehicle was "driving erratic."
• The Mustang crossed the center line and sideswiped a 2006 BMW X5.
• The Mustang then continued traveling north in the southbound lane and hit the 2003 Trailblazer head-on near Butler Road. 

Miller was transported to where she was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m., according to the report. The Shelby Township driver was transported to Crittenton and was listed in stable condition.

The two occupants of the BMW and a passenger in the Trailblazer were not injured, according to the report.

"Alcohol is believed to have been a factor," the report stated. All persons involved were wearing seatbelts.

Adams Road was closed for more than an hour during the accident investigation. When news about the accident spread, residents expressed concerns about the safety and traffic volume of Adams, especially in that area. Adams is a hilly road and the accident site is across the street from two schools.

"Need a light at Adams and Butler," said Matt Towers on the Rochester Patch Facebook page.

"That is a bad intersection ... with the traffic Adams Road handles," responded Linda Raschke. "A signal was finally installed at Adams and Dutton after a near fatality years ago, it took a petition of 900+ signatures."

The crash remains under investigation.
