Police Boost Patrol Along M-59 In November to Curb Excessive Speeding

The Shelby Township police, along with Utica and Sterling Heights have kicked off a special traffic initiative to boost patrol along M-59 between Hayes and Dequindre roads in November.

Don’t be surprised if you see an influx of patrol officers along M-59 in Shelby Township and Utica during the month of November.

The Shelby Township Police Department has issued an early warning to lead-footed drivers that patrol along M-59, also known as Hall Road, between Dequindre and Hayes roads, will be boosted in the next month.

According to a press release, police said they decided to enact the traffic initiative after seeing an increase in fatal crashes, speeders traveling in excess of 85 mph and higher, drivers disobeying traffic signals and more aggressive drivers in the area.

The Shelby Township police, in cooperation with Utica and Sterling Heights will work together to patrol the shared major throughfare. Members from all three departments will be working special traffic enforcement details, both independently and cooperatively, throughout the day and night time hours.

Operation Safe Driving Initiative on M-59 will go through Nov. 30.

Damn! I'm sure it's my fault. I aim for the passing lane and press for 80 MPH. But that's only because people who belong in the right lane tend to vere into passing and middle lanes and maintain their 60 MPH speed because they don't like driving behind tall vehicles.

I have to say, there are some drives hitting well over 90 mph on M-59 ....... and some of them almost appear to be racing each other. But it's those people on their cell phones driving in the passing lane doing 60 that burn me up most.

Go after the cell phone/texters...THEY cause more accidents & problems than anyone speeding on M59

No Kidding! I had a cell phoning woman pull out in front of me as I was driving down the right lane heading north on Van Dyke between 59 and 21 mile today. The lane was closed but I was turning off right before the barricade. She waited till I was right on top of her and pulled out in front of me. I could feel my breaks pulsing as I slammed on the brakes. I honestly can't believe I didn't hit her!
