According to a press release, police said they decided to enact the traffic initiative after seeing an increase in fatal crashes, speeders traveling in excess of 85 mph and higher, drivers disobeying traffic signals and more aggressive drivers in the area.
The Shelby Township police, in cooperation with Utica and Sterling Heights will work together to patrol the shared major throughfare. Members from all three departments will be working special traffic enforcement details, both independently and cooperatively, throughout the day and night time hours.
