Police: Drunken Driver Passes Out at Traffic Light on Hall Road

The Utica police arrested a man on Hall Road after they said he passed out in his vehicle while stopped at a red light.

A 19-year-old Shelby Township man was arrested on charges of operating while under the influence of alcohol on Sept. 6 after a Utica police officer found him sleeping inside his vehicle at green light on Hall Road.

A Utica police officer said in a report that just before 3 a.m., he noticed a vehicle had remained stationary on M-59 after the traffic light turned green. 

The cars behind began to honk and pass the stationary vehicle. When the officer arrived, he noticed a man "slumped over" sleeping in the driver's seat. The vehicle was still in gear and the driver's foot was on the brake.

The officer said the man was "in a deep sleep" when he knocked on the window to wake up the driver.

The driver told police he had five or six beers at a concert with friends earlier in the evening. According to the police report, the man failed two sobriety tests and blew a .186 percent on a blood alcohol test.

His vehicle was impounded and the man was arrested and taken to the Utica police station.
