Police See Spike in Dash Navigation Theft

The Utica police are investigating two vehicle dashboard navigation thefts that occurred in the city on Jan. 12.

Two in-dash navigation systems were stolen out of vehicles parked in Utica on Jan. 12, according to .

The first theft reported was around 9:15 a.m. Jan. 12. The owner of a silver Jeep Grand Cherokee told police the theft happened overnight as his vehicle was parked in a condo complex on Mesmore Street.

The victim found the passenger window had been shattered and the in-dash navigation had been torn out. No other items were missing from the vehicle.

The in-dash navigation system for a Chrysler 300 was stolen sometime Jan. 12 as it was parked in the Holiday Inn Express parking lot.

The rear passenger side window was smashed and only the navigation system was stolen, according to a police report created Jan. 13.

Chief Dave Faber told Patch he beleives the thefts may be related.
