Man Dressed as Woman, Plus 2 Women Sought in Utica Coat Theft

The Utica police are looking for two women and a possible cross dresser in the theft of 20 coats from Dick's Sporting Goods. They say the trio could be part of a string of such thefts.

A woman and what appeared to be a cross-dressing man ran out of Saturday with more than $2,000 worth of North Face jackets in their hands.

Police say the trio could be part of a string of thefts at Dick's stores across the state.

Surveillance cameras show three people—two women and what appeared to be a man dressed as a woman—enter the store on Hall Road at about 10:30 p.m. and walk over to the North Face coats on display.

The loss prevention manager told Utica police that one woman immediately left the store without purchasing anything. Moments later, the other woman and the man dressed as a woman grabbed 20 coats, five under each arm, and ran quickly out the front door to a red Dodge Charger, driven by the woman who had just left the store.

The vehicle sped out of the parking lot with its headlights off, according to the police report.

Dick's loss prevention team told police the same crew has victimized Dick's Sporting Goods stores across the state, according to a police report.

No arrests were made. Anyone with infromation is asked to call the at 586-731-2345.
