Preliminary Exam For Restaurant Beating, Threat Case Postponed Again

The court date for Shelby Township brothers accused of attacking a restaurant owner with a bat and threatening to kill his family and employees was delayed for a second time.

A preliminary exam for two brothers accused of brutally beating a restaurant owner with a his family and employees has been postponed.

The exam, which was originally scheduled for Monday in 41-A District Court in Shelby Township before Judge Douglas Shepherd, has been rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 22, according to court officials.

Giuseppe D'Anna, 58, and Girolamo D'Anna, 46, have been charged with attempted murder, extortion and witness intimidation for an April 28 attack on owner Pietro Ventimiglia inside his restaurant in the Schoenherr and 23 Mile area. Giuseppe D'Anna is owner of nearby . Police and prosecutors say the brothers were upset that Ventimiglia wanted to expand his business.

The suspects are free on previously posted $25,000 cash/surety bonds and were ordered to relinquish their passports. Their lawyers said they are not flight risks.
