Shelby Fire Department Offers Rebate For Life-Saving Weather Radios

The Shelby Fire Department is offering residents an extra incentive to residents to purchase a weather radio.

The will offer residents who buy a weather radio a $10 rebate.

As the third annual NOAA Weather Alerting Radio Campaign kicks off, the Shelby Fire Department believes these devices are so important that its willing to help offset the cost in order to get them into residents’ homes.

The battery-operated Midland Weather Radios, which can be customized to pick up your county’s alerts, will sound when a severe weather statement is issued.

At Tuesday evening’s Board of Trustees meeting, Fire Chief Gene Shepherd pulled up a picture an alarm tower that had been knocked over in the township, and said residents who own a radio would still receive a warning in case of an emergency and a faulty township alert.

ClickonDetroit.com reported that more than 17,000 radios have already been sold. ABC Warehouse is selling the $39.99 radios for $29.99.

The first 50 residents who bring their receipts and proof of residency to the will receive a $10 rebate. The rebate will be available through April 30.

The Fire Department and Firefighter Local 1338 have teamed up to make the offer available to residents.
