Shelby Fire Department to go Digital

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees has approved a contract to install fiber optics cable to connect the townships four fire stations.

The Shelby Township Board of Trustees has agreed to install fiber optic cables that will connect fire station 1 to fire stations 2, 3 and 4.

Currently, the fire departments communicates by using cable and TV lines, which Fire Chief Gene Shepherd said is an antiquated way to communicate

“It’s really not a safe and secure way to do business,” said Shepherd, who added that there is not enough bandwidth to handle the stations call levels.
