BREAKING NEWS: Shelby Issues Boil Water Alert as Crews Work to Contain Water Main Break

Shelby Township is under a boil water alert as crews work to repair a broken water main.

The Shelby Township Water Department is working to contain a 36-inch water main break Tuesday afternoon that has flooded a portion of 24 Mile Road.

have blocked off 24 Mile Road between Jewel and Schoenherr roads, and some surrounding roads, while crews work on the break.

Shelby Township Police Lt. Stan Muszynski said the break occurred just before noon and water has flooded the roadway.

Video from WXYZ shows the water main break gushing up through the road.

Muszynski also said the water department has turned off the water in the area, and residents near Tuscany Groove and in the surronding area may have little or no water pressure.

A boil water advisory has been issued until further notice. Any use of water for human consumption should be boiled for a minimum of 5 minutes and allowed to cool prior to use. All non-essential use of water should be discontinued immediately.
