Shelby Twp. Firefighters Participate in Tornado Rescue Drill

Several Macomb County fire departments took part in a simulated tornado rescue Monday.

Several Macomb County fire departments participated Monday in a simulated tornado rescue drill on a home in Warren.

Firefighters practiced pulling two victims out of a minivan that was trapped under the garage of a 900-square-foot home.

On Sunday, a massive tornado tore through southwestern Missouri and killed at least 89 people.

The drill was put on by the Macomb County Technical Rescue Team, which consists of fire departments from Shelby Township, Lenox Township, Sterling Heights, Clinton Township and Warren.

The Shelby Township fire department recently signed an agreement with the Macomb Technical Rescue Team that states the agencies will respond in other cities in cases of an emergency, but the city will be billed.

"In both of these agreements, it puts a dollar worth on our people,” said Fire Chief Gene Shepherd. "Nothing else is for free.”
