Shelby Twp. Man, 63, Sentenced in Drunk Driving Death of Eastpointe Children

A Wayne County Circuit Court judge has sentenced David L. Lamberson to 10 to 15 years in prison for causing the accident that killed two children in January 2012.

A 63-year-old Shelby Township man has been sentenced to 10 to 15 years behind bars for causing the accident that killed two Eastpointe children one year ago, The Macomb Daily reports.

David L. Lamberson was driving drunk when he crashed his vehicle into the car carrying Arlita Lee and her two children, Alana Lee, 8, and Lavale Harvey Jr., 2. Both children died from their injuries.

Originally charged with two counts of second-degree murder, Lamberson pleaded no contest Dec. 13 to operating while intoxicated causing death. This lesser offense, punishable by up to 15 years in prison, was the result of a plea deal with Wayne County prosecutors, according to The Macomb Daily.

Lamberson was sentenced Monday, Jan. 14, by Judge Gregory Bil in Wayne County Circuit Court in Detroit.

The accident took place Jan. 8, 2012 on Hoover Road in Detroit. Lamberson's blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit and he was speeding, according to police. The Macomb Daily reports the accident occured when Lamberson swerved across the center lane to avoid a car backing out of a driveway.

Lamberson will serve a portion of his term in a medical facility, as he was also severely injured in the accident, according to The Macomb Daily.
