Sheriff: Shelby Teen Suspected of Armed Robbery Beat Up By Party Store Owner

The following arrest information was supplied by the Oakland County Sheriff's Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police said an 18-year-old Shelby Township man allegedly robbed a Pontiac Party store with a lighter and propane torch, and was then forced to return the money outside the party store when the owner chased him down with a baseball bat.

Police said the suspect, whose name is not being released because he hasn't been formally charged, entered the In & Out party store on the 600 block of University just before 11 p.m. Tuesday.

The suspect held a lighther and propane torch up and demanded money from the clerk and walked out.

Shortly after the incident the suspect's father called the Sheriff's Department and told deputies his son had been jumped in Pontiac, and was forced to rob the Inside & Out Party store.

Sheriff deputies came to the father's Shelby Township home and arrested the 18-year-old. He was taken to an area hospital where he was checked out and then brought to the Oakland County Jail.
