A Saline teenager said at her sentencing Tuesday that she’s wished every day since the Feb. 15 death of a Michigan State University student that she “could take it back.”

Samantha Grigg, 18, was sentenced from six to 15 years in prison for her role in the death of Dustyn Frolka after pleading guilty last month to manslaughter and unarmed robbery charges, MLive/The Ann Arbor News reports.

“He was a fellow musician,” said Grigg, a promising musician who was scheduled to audition at Eastern Michigan University before she was jailed. “It really breaks my heart. I wish I could take it back every day.”

Clinton County Trial Court Judge Randy Tahvonen said that though he had received letters from people asking for leniency, he also received several from people who thought she should spend her life in prison.

“People have said that you’re evil, not simply that you’ve done something evil,” the judge said. “If we look objectively at your background and your accomplishments, I think they suggest … that your life isn’t over. The sad thing is, Dustyn’s is.”

Grigg was driving the vehicle when Frolka was assaulted, reportedly with brass knuckles.

The beating was so severe that he reportedly jumped from the Ford Explorer Griff was driving at between 45 and 60 miles per hour along Interstate 69. He was found unresponsive and died en route to an area hospital.

The other two suspects, Brendan Heim, 16, and Tyrel Bredernitz, 18, have been charged. Bredernitz, whose next court date is June 9, is scheduled for trial in June. It’s not known when Heim will return to court.

Grigg reportedly plans to testify against Heim and Bredernitz.

6-15 years is a slap on the wrist for participating in taking someone's life.
