Teens to Face Charges in Alleged Break-ins In Shelby Township

Two teens who police said were caught trying to break into a home will be arraigned today in 41-A District Court.

A 16-year-old and 18-year-old suspected of breaking into several Shelby Township homes and vehicles Wednesday morning and stealing a handgun will be arraigned in 41-A District Court on Thursday afternoon.

The teens, whose names are not being released at this time, are expected to be arraigned on video on charges of home invasion and larceny from an auto.

Shelby Township Captain Roland Woelkers told Patch the two males were arrested early Wednesday morning while trying to break into a home on Sherwood Lane and 24 Mile Road.

and K-9 units had been searching for the men for several hours before they were arrested.

Woelkers said the police were first called around 3:30 a.m. to the area of Runnymeade Drive and Wickersham Road on a suspicious person complaint. When officers arrived in the area, they saw a vehicle with no headlights speed off.

A short time later, a citizen called the police and reported that two people were trying to break into the home. The two teens were arrested without incident.

Before the two were arrested, police said the teens stole from several vehicles and garages in the area. Inside of the teens’ vehicle, police found a handgun that was stolen from a vehicle nearby and other stolen items from nearby garages.

Woelkers said one of the teenagers was from Shelby Township. He did not have information on where the other teen was from.
