A shopper at in Utica ran out of the store Friday morning without paying for a handful of clothing valued at $157.

The incident took place shortly after the store opened when the would-be thief gathered several pieces of clothing from around the store and asked a clerk to place some items behind the register. As she continued to shop, she then asked the clerk for a pair of sandals from the back.

With one clerk checking for sandals and the other on the phone, the thief quickly ran out the front door with a handful of clothing. When the clerk heard the door bell chime and ran out to look, the woman was already out of site.
