Touring Musician Loses Thousands Worth of Musical Equipment in Auto Theft

Utica Police have no suspects stemming from the incident.

Highlights of recent Utica Police reports include:

  • A 23-year-old Romeo man faces possible charges of driving with a suspended license and damaging property in an auto accident after an incident on the night of Oct. 14. Witnesses told Utica Police that the man struck two vehicles at the corner of Van Dyke and Canal that night and fled the scene on foot. Police have made contact with the owner of the vehicle responsible for the crash, according to reports.

  • A 50-year-old Empire man was arrested for allegedly operating under the influence of alcohol after being stopped at Hall Road and Van Dyke on Oct. 19. Police said that the man failed sobriety tests at the scene. A blood draw was taken and the results are pending.

  • A Dodge Sprint van, which was carrying thousands of dollars in musical equipment was recovered in Detroit on Oct. 20 after being reported missing from the parking lot of the Utica La Quinta Hotel on Oct. 19. There were no signs of forced entry and the reporting person, a touring musician, told police that he had locked all of the doors in the van. 

  • A red bike was reported stolen from the 45000 block of Birchcrest St. on Oct. 18. The bike's owners believe it was taken between Oct. 16-17.
