Underage Girls’ Nude Selfies End Up Online, Are Taken Down, Then Pop Up Again

Sexually explicit nude selfies of several underaged high school girls intended for their boyfriends ended up on Instagram and now three Warren teenagers face a variety of charges in adult court.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release that the suspects obtained the photos and distributed them to the girls’ former boyfriends, who posted them online.

During the investigation, the suspects were ordered to take down the web site, which they did, only to establish another Instagram account and post the nude photos there, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith said the case is an important reminder that “new crime sometimes accompanies new technology.”

“We need to impress upon our children that the images they post online or through texts have the potential to follow them eternally,” Smith said. “If you distribute an intimate photograph of yourself, you can count the minutes until some criminal is posting it for the world to see.”

Authorities allege Kheir D. Maxwell, 18, and Germaine T. Holt Jr., 17, obtained the photographs of the underaged Cousino HIgh School students without their consent and then posted them on an Instagram page.

Maxwell has been charged with two seven-year felonies – one count each of distributing child sexually abusive material and using a computer to distribute sexually abusive material.

Maxwell and Holt are also charged with six counts each of unlawful posting of a message and one count each of using a computer to unlawfully post a message.

In a separate case, Deshawn M. Smalls, 17, is charged with four counts of unlawful posting of a message, a two-year felony, and one count of using a computer a four-year felony. Authorities allege Smalls created an Instagram page in April and posted nude images of underaged female students from high schools in Warren without their consent.

The three will be arraigned in 37th District Court in Warren.
