Utica Appoints Deputy Police Chief
Utica will soon have a Deputy Police Chief to help Chief Dave Faber run the department.
As of July 1, Utica will have a new Deupty Police Chief, Sgt. Sean Coady.
The position was newly created when Utica promoted Sgt. Dave Faber to chief at the May City Council Meeting.
Coady has been with Utica for 17 years and worked his way up the ranks from patrol officer to detective, SWAT Team and Sargeant.

When former police chief Michael Reaves left the role in 2011 to take a position as the top cop in Port Huron, Utica Mayor Jacqueline Noonan had appointed the department's three sargents to run the force: Faber, Coady and Jerome Carroll.
Coady said his plans for the department as deputy chief are to to streamline processis and the budget and modernize technology.

"I want to review everything. As a result of the economic situation and be efficient with Utica's resources," he said.
Coady said he also hopes the newly created position will be a stepping stone to becoming the police chief, once Faber retires in several years.
