Utica Crime Report: Two Identity Thefts Reported; Man Arrested for OWI; Men Fight

Here's a look at a few crimes in Utica.

Identity Thieves Target Two People 

A homeowner on Kensington Drive reported to the Utica Police Department on July 16 that someone had opened accounts with DTE and Home Depot without his permission. The resident received a DTE bill for $1,095 for electric service at a Detroit apartment that he does not own. Upon a credit report check, the resident also found that someone fraudulently opened a Home Depot account that has not been used. He is disputing the accounts. 

The Utica Police Department responded to a report of ID theft on July 12 when a sister claimed her sibling used her social security number to create an account with Comcast for a home on Cass Drive. The officer observed new equipment at the home. The sister is pressing charges.

Sterling Heights Man Arrested For OWI In Utica 

On July 16, a Utica Police Department officer observed a Dodge Ram make an illegal left turn and swerve on Northpoint Blvd. After stopping the driver, a Sterling Heights resident, the officer smelled alcohol and administered sobriety tests. The driver failed to maintain balance, could not walk heel to toe, and was unable to count backward from 98. A preliminary breath test revealed a result of .213. He was arrested for OWI.

Man Charged With Assault

Utica police arrived at a fight on Keding Street July 14 and observed a victim bleeding from the nose, mouth, and face. The victim reported that after an argument, his friend repeatedly punched him in the face. Officers observed blood the friend's hands, in his nailbeds, and on his shorts. After questioning, he was arrested and charged with assault. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
