A car fire was captured on video early Thursday morning.
Macomb Township resident Tara Berner was on her way home just moments after midnight when she saw a flaming vehicle pass her by.
"I am just sitting at the red light and out of the corner of my eye I saw sparks," said Berner. "Then the car came into view and it was totally sideways because the front tire was missing."
Shelby Township Police Lt. Stan Muszynski told Patch the driver of the vehicle had hit a curb on the roundabout at 25 and Hayes and blew out his tire. The metal from the tire sparked the concrete below and that's how the fire started.
Berner said the driver pulled over just south of 24 and Hayes and called police.
"There were other people in the parking lot and the car was on fire," she said. "I mean there were flames. I was seriously afraid the car was going to explode."
But instead of exiting the vehicle, the driver started driving across Hayes and came to a stop in front of the CVS.
Berner said she wasn't sure if the man was having a medical emergency and that's why he tried to drive away rather than exit the vehicle.
Firefighters arrived within seconds and pulled the man from the fully engulfed vehicle.
Muszynski said the man, whose name is not known, was taken to an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
