23 Mile Bridge Work Begins in Shelby Township

As the Van Dyke asphalt and maintenance project winds down in Shelby Township, crews have started work on the 23 Mile bridge over the M-53 expressway.

Work is underway on the 23 Mile bridge over the M-53 expressway.

Contractors have shut down the eastbound lane of the bridge for maintenance work, with ramp and lane closures expected to last for about two months.

As the 23 Mile bridge project is underway, the Van Dyke road project between the Utica limits and 23 Mile road is winding down.

The project includes the lowering of the locations of drainage structures, milling and removal of the existing asphalt and laying a new layer of asphalt. This project is now slated to be completed July, according to the Macomb County Department of Roads, due to the recent rain storms and weather-related setback.
